Back from a brief California sabbatical, NYC localities & much-adored indie stalwarts Rebounder take to Union Pool for a night (and setlist) filled with oldies and new instant classics. Marching onstage to Tinashe’s “Nasty,” the gang of four promise to match the crowd’s freak. But not before singer/songwriter May Rio sets the tempo. Rebounder’s signature downtown-savvy had heads-a-bobbin’ and rumps-a-shakin’ to a handful of new material; “All Strings Attached,” “Europe in August,” and “Poker Night” all beg for proper studio releases. Masters of the crossover, Dylan & Noah pass the mic as the pair on lead vocals mash their signature hit, “Japanese Posters,” with TLC’s “No Scrubs.” What’s more is that the band blends David Byrne’s “Strange Overtones” with their own “Night Sports.” They decide to close out the evening with their own take on the whistle-tune classic, Peter Bjorn and John‘s “Young Folks.”
