Charly Bliss @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, 9/09/24

Brooklyn pop-rock darlings Charly Bliss are currently touring their long-awaited third full-length record, Forever. Last night they yet again hit up Music Hall of Williamsburg to unleash both fury and joy upon the masses. The collective of Eva Hendricks (vocals, guitar), Spencer Fox (lead guitar), Dan Shure (bass), and Sam Hendricks (drums) have much more than sonically since their last LP, Young Enough. Eva is weeks away from getting married to her Australian lover, Sam has a kid, Dan works video production for Secret NYC, and Spencer got a tattoo of the name of the character he voiced in The Incredibles on his knee.

The night began with a stunning warm-up from tour partner Raffaella, whose hits “Man of Your Dreams” and “Bardot” had the crowd shaking their hips in unison. As the Bliss crew took stage to thunderous applause, they start the evening with the opener from their latest record, “Tragic.” The oldheads in the room absolutely thrashed to LP1 barn blazer “DQ.” Their sophomore record even features heavily in the midsection of the setlist. Even more recent singles that did not end up on Forever, such as “I Need a New Boyfriend” and “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore” made an appearance. Eva tearfully claimed that this night was the very best night of your in between songs, just before dedicating “Easy to Love You” to her soon-to-be husband over FaceTime. The night was capped off with a special treat encore – the band of four covered emo legends My Chemical Romance’s “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” – a final note that unequivocally tore the roof off the whole joint.
